Alien Biota

(2024)

“Alien Biota“ explores the question of what life could look like on other planets. The installation shows terrariums with plants from three fictitious planets in the context of a futuristic natural history museum.

Various mediums were used, from 3D printing and textile work to sculptural elements. Arduino elements controlling a motor and LEDs responding to an Ultrasonic sensor were built into two terrariums. In addition to the terrariums, the informational texts and botanical drawings offer insights into the worlds from which the plants originate. These elements combined with the performance, in the form of a museum tour, place the installation in the context of political issues such as colonialism, capitalism and the exploitation of resources.

Inspired by science fiction and astrobiology, “Alien Biota“ invites the viewer to immerse themselves in a distant future.
